out and about
First day of recording today. I'm typing this from a Kinko's in Lawrence, KS. We all stopped in to check our email. We're not nerds are we?
It's been a great first day with Mr. Ed Rose. He is making me work alot harder than I have worked in the studio before. That's a good thing. I'm using a click track successfully for the first time in my life. 5 drums tracks down. We'll tackle the rest tomorrow. So far, it sounds great, it's already the best sounding drum recording I've ever had. And we're just on the first day! Needless to say, im excited. Needless to say, the beast was stunned.
Brian Adams is playing. Sweet.

Watch it Frenchie.
Ever hear of Broomball? Ever hear of Knitting? Coin Collecting?
Jerk.
Tonights the night. We're heading out to Kansas late tonight and driving through the night. A whole week of recording magic. Ed Rose, you yummy yummy man.
I like the 3 days later, we are all still talking about The Doom Generation. Can't we all just get along? I was just saying I watched it, and hated it. 'Nuff said. And yes, speaking of Pi, Darren Aronofsky makes some crazy movies. Requiem for a Dream is pretty disturbing. I had quite a spell after i saw that movie. I still find it hard to believe the movie caused it, but I've never had it happen to me before or since then. As soon as the movie was over, i felt sick, the last half hour or so was pretty disturbing. I got up, headed to the bathroom, i thought my mexican food was coming back. On my trek to the bathroom, i got really lightheaded and dizzy. Then, my ears started ringing. My sight got blurry. I saw a christmas tree right in front of me, yet still managed to walk right into it. And of course, at this movie theatre that bathroom is at the top of a giant staircase. I didn't think I was going to make it. I though I was going to come crashing down the stairs. But I made it, barely. Got in the bathroom, waiting to thank the toilet bowl for being cool on the side. But then, nothing. A few minutes later, I was fine. That was my crazy Requiem for a Dream episode. I don't know what that was all about. Never happened again. Maybe I should try watching it again. Good times.
Todays celebrity birthday, Matt Groening is 48.
don't you mean plan? what else do you do other than play video games? i am curious to know.
Parker Posey was in Doom Generation for about 3 nanoseconds, and it was hard to tell it was even her. An obvious case of paying someone just to put their name on the box. "Parker Posey is in this, it must be good!".
The Doom Generation made me cry, as it is an abomination against man and nature. Everyone associated with the "film" should be drug out into the street and beated about the head and neck.
Pi is a very good movie. I can see it being confusing, especially if you miss something. But its shot / edited very well. Unlike Doom Generation. Same director as Requiem for a Dream, which I hear is very good as well.
In other news, all of my plans have been thoroughly shot to hell.

Parker Posey, always good. I WILL agree on that. I also agree that John Ritter is dreamy.
So yes, i watched my 4th movie in 2 days. I watched Pi today. I don't know if i can even say what i thought of it. I thought it was ok. I was a little bored to be honest. I maybe would have liked it better, but I got really confused, partially due to the dvd player screwing up on my causing me to miss an entire scene or two. So that is my two cents on Pi.
So it looks as if we might play a local show in Minneapolis once we return from recording, keep checking back, we should have the lowdown on that soon. Exciting times ahead for me. Record, possible show, fly back to Richmond, VA, go back to work, go on tour in April. Thats levitation holmes.
How 'bout the power, to move you.
i want to argue. the doom generation made me laugh a couple of times and i liked parker posey. granted, nowhere was better. actually, nowhere kicked ass. fucking john ritter is in it. he's so dreamy. remember hooperman? man, those were good times. speaking of good times... guess what comic genious is making an appearance in the van on the way to recording this friday/saturday?
"the doom generation has some good qualities. both in fact belong to rose mcgowan"
Is this a reference to her enormous chest?
Its horrible Justin. Its ok to not like movies even if they try to be artsy fartsy. My other artsy fartsy film nerd friend also thinks its one of the worst movies ever made. Everything that director does turns to diarrhea.
A good rule of thumb: if Peter Travers of Rolling Stone likes it, its horse manure.
i've tried multiple times to type on this piece and get jacked during every occurance. this time i have eliminated any interruptions or distractions.
i don't care what any of you say. the doom generation (although not anywhere near my top 10,000 favorite films of all time) has some good qualities. both in fact belong to rose mcgowan. that said... i spent last night watching angela's ashes for a second time. i saw it when it first came out because emily watson and robert carlyle were in it and enjoyed it. recently i found the book it was based on and read it. then i watched it again and it wasn't as exciting as it was the first time (which can be said about a lot of things, including people). ghost world, i think, still remains one of my favorites over the last year. i rented it for two weeks and watched it 5 times. freedom of speech, baby.
tonight i'm gonna keep an eye on my little sister while my parents are out. then i'm gonna clean my bookshelf at the house i live in. that should take aproximately 4 hours. i'm very thorough. i can't really decide if "living each day as if it is your last" means dropping all insecurities and being at peace with yourself and surroundings, or selling all your shit and jumping a plane bound for ireland to drink yourself to death. right now i could really go for a hershey's bar with almonds. mmm.
I've been on pins and needles all day waiting for my Celebrity Birthday. Good work Turbo.
Doom Generation is far and away the worst movie I've ever seen.
Pi is one of my favorites. I'm kind of a number cruncher myself, so I like it a little extra.
If you want more campy Horror flicks, may I suggest Bad Taste and DeadAlive. Both were made by the director of Lord of the Rings. That'll make you scratch your head while watching them.
At work our boss brought in some Famous Dave's BBQ for lunch. Too bad I'm vegetarian. The cornbread is nice though.
Is it impressive or sad that i watched 3 movies yesterday? Well, regardless, it is the truth. Here now is the list of movies and my extremely brief reviews.
1. The Doom Generation - a flaming piece of shit.
2. Amelie - great, fun, unique, french
3. The Evil Dead - not as good as the sequels, bad acting, enjoyable because of how bad it is at times
I had never seen the first Evil Dead, but am a fan of the sequels. I knew the first one has a different approach, but i thought i would check it out finally. I didn't plan on going to see Amelie, but I took a walk yesterday, and saw that it was playing as I was walking by, so i thought I would check it out. I kept hearing from others how good it was, and they were right. Lots of fun. I'm really bad at explaining what movies are about, so I'm not even going to try. I just went through that with my friend JJ. I might watch another movie here in a bit. Another movie marathon today? Who knows. I think I may watch Pi. If so, i'll be back with a review later.
One more free night for me here before we head to Kansas to record the new record. I can't believe the time is just about here. I've been here for 3 weeks now, and this is one of the main reasons I am here, so, hold on to your butts. We are all really excited about recording Mr. Ed Rose. Can't wait to hear how its going to sound! He does good work if you didn't know. He's worked with bands like Ultimate Fakebook and The Get Up Kids. Good times.
Non-exciting news- its Valentines Day.

If it isn't obvious to you (our reader / listener) yet, this is without question the best MCS has ever been, in both music and good times. I really like playing with Mr. T. Thaxton, and the addition of Jesse lets Justin rock out even more. Speaking of Justin, he's even getting his voice up to 100%, next thing you'll know he'll be singing about racecars and such.
It's been what, 4 years since we started? Something like that. Something ridiculous. And it finally feels like things are paying off. Not so much in dollars and (s)cents, but in fun and enjoyment. Minus me yelling at Josh in front of Chicago (the city, not the band) this weekend, it was easily the best time Josh, Justin, and myself have had in the band.
I'm getting excited about recording next week. The full length will sound so good, and I dare say, will even have been worth the wait. I'm a complete neurotic mess when it comes to travel / sleeping / new places, but I'm trying to relax. At least I get to bring my Xbox with, so anyone who wants a knuckle sandwhich on NHL 2002, you know where to find me.
I've got a Broomball game tonight. We're playing an undefeated team. If we get this, we're totally in the hunt for first place.
My hands are dry enough to write "dry" on the back of them with my fingernail.
Justin, call me. We'll paint the town red. Or blue if you prefer. Maybe periwinkle? But I will not let you bust on the Smurfs. It's on right now actually.
Todays celebrity birthday, Peter Tork is 60.
seriously...
"the smurfs" is so bad it's gone past good and back to bad again. tony, we need to get you out of josh's closet. i think the cabin fever is in the early stages of progression. if not taken care of soon, you might just go totally bonkers. what do you say we go tooling for ass in my pimped out hyundai?

When is the last time any of you saw The Smurfs? After waking up early to do some cleaning, the other day Josh and I discovered that The Smurfs come on the Cartoon Network. Needless to say, now I am hooked. It's so bad it's good. It's like a Saved by the Bell obsession, you know its stupid, but you watch it anyways. In fact, it's smurfalicious. I had forgotten how they actually used the word "smurf" all of the time. It's like the all purpose word. I makes no sense. Today Papa Smurf actually was startled and said, "Smurf is me!" Needless to say, I was simply smurfed.
I've been in Minneapolis now for about 3 weeks. I'm used to it, but at the same time I'm not. It was so good to play some rock this weekend, but now i am back to some downtime. Downtime can be good though. All I wanted to do today is sleep though. I had my best night of sleep since I got here last night. The mini-mini tour just wore me out. My bed in the closet was calling my name last night. It was nice to be back in my room. Closet, sweet closet. I'll be back in Richmond, VA in a few weeks. My actual return date is still up in the air. It all depends on if we end up playing a local show here after returning from recording the new record. I think I am at least staying until the Ben Folds solo show here in town. Yee Haw.
Todays celebrity birthday, Abe Lincoln is dead.
check it out...
today i received a letter from the minnesota collection agency. apparently i owed minneapolis community and technical school $320 for a class i never took last spring. legal action has been taken and now, more than ever, i am in the throws of debt... again. poop.
on a lighter note... i want to die.
i knew this girl from olklin hills
she stole her dads car and all her moms pills
got fucked up and drove off a cliff no she is dead dead in a ditch.
i am working on getting the live stuff on my computer then on the website.
on a side note pictures must be taken. we ned to get this current.
And i i would have to agree i have never had that much fun in this band ever.
i really cant wait to get on tour in april. thanks to all for letting us crash and smash there places good day and day for now

hey jesse swallow this one...
As everyone has said on here, we had quite the kickass weekend of rock. I don't know if we could have asked for better shows to play. It was a good way to start my stint with MCS. We got back this morning at 8am after driving all night long. Fun fun.
Now we have another week of practice before heading to the studio next week. The new record is coming!!!
And the award for the most boring blog of all time goes to...TONY THAXTON!!!!
Todays celebrity birthday, Burt Reynolds is 66.
well, the last three days were like unicorns, they totally ruled. we played at the fireside last night in chicago. when justin started the set with back to the beat, i was acually in the bathroom pooping. my band was starting and i was on the pot. no bueno.with a quick wipe, two shakes of a lambs tail, and a cartwheel, i made it on stage in time to start my parts. speaking of the devil, i gotta go poop right now. later.
I'm at work and I think I have a case of swampass. Not good.
Anyways, it was quite the weekend of shows. Everyone seemed to like us, and especially our newest additions. Pete in Bloomington put us up, and has the cutest dog in the world. Justins cousin Mel helped us out in Madison. Shes not French like Pierre though.
In a small mircale, we actually made a few bucks, and didn't have to scrounge the van-seats for change to get home.
In other unsurprising news, Josh and I yelled at each other again, but its all good. We're both stubborn idiots, so sometimes it rears its ugly head.
I better get back to work before I get hollered at. Looks like these are my last 5 days in the land of Video Update.
